The Davis Methods
The Davis® methods were devised by a dyslexic to provide a powerful hands-on system of learning. They makes use of dyslexic intelligence as a learning tool.
Our one-to-one intensive Programmes enable children and adults - using their own natural talent - to overcome difficulties with literacy, numeracy, hand-eye coordination, handwriting, attention focus and energy management.
In the classroom, our approach successfully brings together learners of all different thinking styles, creating learning experiences which stimulate the academically able and protect the at-risk learner at the same time.
These methods have been used in the USA since the 1980s when Ronald Davis, himself severely dyslexic, began to discover ways to overcome his difficulties and founded the Reading Research Council, which delivered a five-day Davis Dyslexia Programme to both adults and children to correct their dyslexic problems.
In 1995 training and delivery of the programme was standardised, the Davis Dyslexia Association International was established. Since then, the programme has been initiated worldwide with licensed facilitators delivering Davis Programmes in Germany, Switzerland, France, Iceland and the Netherlands, as well as in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Dubai, Lebanon, India, Kenya and South Africa, amongst the 44 countries where there are licensed Davis Facilitators.
The methods have been used in the UK since 1997 and there are currently 43 qualified facilitators working in the UK, licensed by Davis Dyslexia Association International and adhering to the DDAI Standards of Practice.
