More information
I have a Bachelor of Education Degree and taught English and Drama for a number of years. Since 1994, when I studied for a Diploma in Advanced Professional Studies to teach children and young people with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia), I have worked with many students whose learning style is different from the conventional. I became aware from the start that people with dyslexia absorb information in a multitude of ways, and not necessarily by the way most accepted in most schools – i.e. via the written word.
In 1999, I came across the book ‘The Gift of Dyslexia’ by Ron Davis and had profound sympathy with the principles behind and the methods described in this book. The parent of the student who had introduced me to the book asked me to attend on the last day of her son’s programme in order to learn how to support him in the follow-up work. The way of working and the use of clay impressed me.
During the year 2000, I attended all the necessary workshops to complete the training and became a facilitator, licensed to carry out the Davis Dyslexia Correction Programme.
