Having been trained in the conventional techniques for helping those with dyslexia, I became very disheartened when they did not seem to work for a good majority of my students. I knew in my heart of hearts that there had to be a better way.
Fate then took a hand when I had the opportunity to attend a talk given by Ron Davis. I remember thinking as I listened to what he had to say, that it just made so much sense. I knew that I had found that better way and training in the Davis techniques would provide the solution I had been looking for. I now have what must be one of the best jobs in the world.
I am passionate about offering practical help to all those with dyslexic tendencies, whatever their age. Nothing gives me a greater 'buzz' then seeing a client who in the past struggled to read, spell, write or do maths, but now knows how easy it can be, just by being shown a different way to do it and whose confidence levels are now sky high.
As a part time lecturer/tutor for a number of higher education colleges in the Thames Valley where I teach English, maths and IT, as well as working in the workbased and Lifelong Learning Sector, I am able to combine my teaching with the Davis Techniques to help those students who may find learning that little bit more difficult.
In recent years, one of the highlights of my work has been winning the contract to become Specialist Support Tutor for Thames Valley Police, where I provide practical help and support for dyslexic student/probationary police officers and PCSOs.
Having completed the OCR Level 7 Certificate Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia, I am now qualified to carry out formal Assessments for Dyslexia for children and adults.
