More information
Joy has an honours degree in law, holds Qualified Teacher Status and has a Postgraduate Certificate in Adult Dyslexia Diagnosis and Support.
Joy has been using the Davis techniques since 2004, when she trained to use the Davis Learning Strategies in her primary school classroom. She then went on to train as a Davis Dyslexia Program Facilitator and has worked successfully with both adults and children.
"It is wonderful to see dyslexic thinkers moving forward in their lives with greater awareness of themselves; greater awareness of their strengths and greater strategies to overcome their weaknesses."
Joy's aim is to put herself out of a job as far as Davis programmes for children are concerned. She wants to see the Davis Learning Strategies implemented in every classroom, in every school in the United Kingdom and beyond so that gifted, creative children will no longer have to suffer in class simply because they think and learn differently:
"Dyslexic thinkers have great potential because of the way they think, which may or may not be recognised at school. Their strengths need to be nurtured as much as their weaknesses so that their outlook is balanced and their future is filled with hope."
"Every successful program gives me the opportunity to prove to another teacher that a child that they may have labelled as 'lazy', 'not trying hard enough', 'disruptive' or 'lazy' can excel at school when their learning style is catered for."
