Welcome,
I live on the Norfolk/Suffolk borders in the Waveney Valley, having road links to the A140, A143, A146, A11, and A14.
As a child I did not find it easy to read and write. I struggled to put my thoughts down on paper and to read fluently. No matter how hard I tried I could not remember the spelling of even the simplest of words. I would get my thoughts out of sequence and reverse my words when speaking: saying, “park car” instead of “car park” - and I developed a slight stutter when under stress. Although I was attentive and desperately wanted to learn, I could never remember what had been taught in the classroom.
But I did have talents in other areas: art, dress making, needlework, sport, dancing, maths, making friends; and I was very sensitive to the needs of others. These were the talents that enabled me to survive the educational system and obtain G.C.E. passes, which in turn secured a job. This job involved using my dyslexic talents: visual spatial, multi-tasking expertise, and people skills.
I believe that being a dyslexic and having had to work twice as hard as others to make sense of the world, over time, enabled me to see from a different perspective, to find alternative ways of solving a problem and to develop strengths from deep within.
Whilst working as a classroom assistant when my children were young, I observed that many of the students were experiencing the same problems I had had at school. Eager to find a way to help them I eventually read, “The Gift of Dyslexia” by Ron Davis. This was the only book that I had read on the subject that made any sense to me. It explained why I had found certain aspects of my life so confusing.
I decided I wanted to train to be a facilitator and, during the training, experienced a Davis Correction® Programme for myself. This was the most empowering thing I have ever done. In July 2003 I qualified as a Facilitator.
Since qualifying I have helped children, teenagers, and adults to reach their goals and move on with their lives. They come to me with various symptoms, which might include reading/writing/spelling, time management issues, difficulties with maths, clumsiness, behavioural difficulties and low self-esteem.
Please call me or drop me an e-mail if you would like to discuss the Davis methods, or if you just want a chat about anything you may think I can help you with.
Best wishes,
Maureen
