Nathan
Nathan is a Dyslexic who completed a Maths Mastery Programme in 2005.
Prior to the Programme Nathan had great difficulty sequencing anything, which affected many aspects of his life. It stopped him being able to retell an accurate account of how he was being bullied at school; caused him difficulty with Maths; stopped him from reading a book and also prevented him enjoying having a story being read to him, even as a toddler. Why would a story make sense if you couldn't follow how the sequence of the story was developing and how one thing followed after the other.
After completing the programme he came home from school and said he had read a book for the first time, he could also tell us how the bullying was happening which helped us as parents to help him through a very difficult stage in his life.
He is now in year nine and has had a poem entered into a Young Writers’ Bust a Rhyme Competition. Work was chosen for its creativity, imagination, perception and expression out of thousands of poems all over the UK and overseas and will be published on 31st March 2010.
As you can see he has come a long way from not being able to read to being a creative writer.
Here is his Poem:
Falling Poppies
The poppies falling on a mourning sky
Those that are dead are now in our hearts
Family, friends and colleagues too
All shed one tear or two.
The coffins are laid in the ground
The ashes are burnt and scattered over land
The memorials are made the names are too many
The statues are sculpted
But still the tears still are flowing
And the poppies keep on falling…
