SpLD
This is short for Specific Learning Difficulties. It is a term used to cover a family of issues, which include:
- Dyslexia
- Dyspraxia
- ADD/ADHD
- Dyscalculia
- Autistic Spectrum Disorder
It is, at a basic level, recognition that all these labels have some common factor: invariably those given this label appear bright but can't seem to learn academically at the level that their intellect would suggest they should.
The Davis perspective recognises that all these issues arise from the fact that the gift at their heart is not recognised and respected and therefore learning opportunities are not presented in a way that makes sense to the person being taught.
For this reason we tend to think of SpLD as Specific Teaching Difficulties.
