Dyslexia in Higher Education
Some dyslexics know they are dyslexic before they arrive at university; others do not find out until they get there.
They may know they had to work harder than their fellows to get the results they wanted, or they may have been good enough at science and maths not to worry if they just got by in more language based subjects; and by following their own interests subject wise at A level may not have noticed any major difficulties. Arriving at university they hit a wall and, if someone notices in time, may find-to their surprise (and sometimes horror)-that they are dyslexic.
If you have browsed other areas of this web site you will have seen that we know there is nothing horrifying about being dyslexic.
Since 2002, when the Disability Discrimination Act was changed, discrimination against dyslexia, including dyscalculia, in education has been made illegal. Browse the links on the side bar to find out how this might benefit you.
