What is ‘Gifts For Dyslexia’?

Gifts for Dyslexia (G4D) is a Bursary Fund. It provides assistance to people in financial need who would benefit from the Davis® Programme. G4D considers applications from people with dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, attention deficit and other learning difficulties.

The Davis Methods

Ronald Davis, an autistic and dyslexic himself, came up with a clever and successful strategy for solving dyslexic difficulties. By using the dyslexic talents of heightened perception and imaginative thinking, dyslexics are empowered to correct these difficulties. Davis®Programmes provide practical skills that remove obstacles to learning and everyday functioning by focusing on the distinctive dyslexic learning style. A style shared by all  dyslexic individuals. Thus, the Davis®student can achieve the fullest expression of their innate gifts; moving to success in every aspect of their lives.

This programme is particularly helpful to ‘non-responders’ to phonics!

More information can be found in Ronald Davis’ book The Gift of Dyslexia.

Why Donate?

Our aim is to make the Davis® Programme available to as many people as possible. Some need financial support.
If you are the parent of a child who experienced a successful program or you are a client yourself and would like to give something back to the organisation, then you could make a contribution to our Bursary Fund. Every little bit helps, however large or small.
Your generous donation will go to support individuals to enable them to take a Davis® Programme.

Applying for a Bursary

To apply for a bursary, you need to be assessed by a licensed Davis® facilitator. If your needs can be met by a Davis® Programme, then you and your facilitator will fill in the bursary application forms together.

Professional services described as Davis® or Davis® Dyslexia Correction, may only be provided by persons who are trained and licensed as Davis® Facilitators by Davis Dyslexia Association International®.

      Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum amount of grant I can expect to receive?

Assuming funds are available (this is why your donation is essential), G4D will consider providing a bursary for up to 80% of the total cost of a Davis ® programme.

When will I hear the outcome of my application?

The bursary committee will usually meet within four weeks of receiving your application form.

If you are successful, you and your facilitator will be informed immediately.
You will be expected to start your programme within three months of the date of the confirmation letter with the programme being completed three months after that.

The bursary will be paid to your facilitator on confirmation from them, and you, of the completion of the Davis ® programme.

      Are bursaries always available?

In order to give bursaries, G4D must have sufficient funds. Fund raising is ongoing and donations are gratefully received.

The bursary committee informs all Davis® facilitators when there are sufficient funds so that applications can be submitted.
