    Why Tyrannosaurus but not If?

    Now also available, in greater detail, in a wonderful book.

    Have you ever wondered why  some children can write the word tyrannosaurus and yet cannot spell the word if? Or wondered, therefore, why there are children who get 9/10 in a spelling test, but then spell those same test words incorrectly in their next piece of writing? Have you, furthermore, wondered why there are children who, however hard a teacher tries to make a lesson entertaining, just switch off, or sabotage those efforts and, moreover, their own learning with seemingly pointless disruptive behaviour?

    Richard Whitehead, Director of Davis Learning Foundation, the non-profit UK arm of Davis Dyslexia Association International, has written a 15 part course, primarily aimed at teachers frustrated by the children that seem to have mysterious barriers to effective learning. This course answers these questions and gives guidance about how to address the situation. Why Tyrannosaurus but not If is a free, on-line mentoring course for teaching professionals, which could also be of interest to anyone who is or knows a person with dyslexia.

    If you would like to:

    • Grasp the reasons why some bright children may struggle to acquire basic academic skills;
    • Use these insights to make an incisive difference to the abilities, well-being and prospects of these children in your classroom;
    • Acquire insights and approaches that enable you to stimulate both academically able and academically challenged children at the same time;
    • Give disruptive and impulsive children better control of their focus and behaviour;
    • Make a valuable difference to children who, while they may be academically able, have difficulty in areas such as sitting still, controlling hand-eye coordination, succeeding at sports, learning from consequences, or reading people?

    This course provides insights, approaches and strategies to help you achieve any or all of these goals.
